Siemens: Distributed I/O - ET 200SP

The SIMATIC ET 200SP distributed I/O system is a scalable and highly flexible, distributed I/O system for connecting process signals to a central controller via PROFINET.

The SIMATIC ET 200SP is installed on a mounting rail and generally comprises:

  • an interface module, which communicates with all of the controllers that behave according to the PROFINET standard IEC 61158,
  • up to 64 I/O modules, which are plugged into passive base units in any combination
  • a server module, which completes the structure of the SIMATIC ET 200SP.

The distributed I/O system is particularly easy to operate, and with its compact design it achieves maximum economy in the control cabinet. The SIMATIC ET 200SP communicates via PROFINET. Their high speed and transmission rate ensure significantly greater performance than conventional systems.

Area of application

SIMATIC ET 200SP is a multi-functional distributed I/O system for various application areas. Thanks to the scalable structure, you can align the I/O station on-site to the exact needs. SIMATIC ET 200SP is approved for IP 20 degree of protection and designed for use in a control cabinet.

Benefits

Easy to use

  • Free choice of the PROFINET connection technology via bus adapter
  • No tools needed for wiring due to push-in technology
  • Improved accessibility of the wiring thanks to a new arrangement of the spring NC contacts and the associated conductor opening
  • Extremely clear arrangement thanks to colored labels and reference labeling plates and labeling strips
  • Channel-specific diagnostic functions

Compact design

  • Expandability of the station to 64 modules
  • Space savings in the control cabinetCompact dimensions, suitable for 80 mm standard control boxes

High performance

  • Fast communication via PROFINET
  • Modules and terminal boxes can be replaced while system is running ("hot swapping")
  • Uniform shielding concept, from the conductor, terminal box and back plane bus to the PROFINET cable
  • Greater energy efficiency thanks to system-integrated PROFIenergy
  • AS-Interface
  • Configuration control via software

Design and function

The SIMATIC ET 200SP is very user-friendly thanks to the variable and scalable station design. The maximum configuration is 64 modules with up to 1024 signals.

The easy-to-combine modules mean time savings during installation. The system layout is comprised of base units with terminal boxes and their plug-in I/O modules with the electronics package, and interface modules, which also supply power to the entire station. No separate supply modules are needed. Both the modules and the terminal boxes can be replaced while the system is operating. The physical coding prevents damage to the electronics if incorrectly plugged in. This results in increased fail-safety.

SIMATIC ET 200SP offers the choice of connection technology for PROFINET through its bus adapters (BA). The BA 2xRJ45 enables the connection with familiar RJ45 plugs. The BA 2xFC enables highest system availability through constant vibrations even in the case of spontaneous jerks because the PROFINET cables are connected directly in the bus adapter. The usability is further increased through the easily replaceable bus adapters.

The labelling system of the SIMATIC ET 200SP consists of three components: Color coding tags, reference identification tags, and labeling strips. The color coding tags facilitate the assignment of the cables and mark the potentials of a peripheral module. The reference identification tags identify the system components, and the labeling strips plant-specifically mark the signals connected to the clamps.

Thanks to the arrangement of the slots on the terminal box and the push-in technology, wiring is facilitated and can be done with only one hand and no tools.
